Are There Side Effects to Vaping?

Whether you've been vaping for a while or just getting your feet wet, chances are, your inner circle is questioning you as to why you vape so much.  Some of the most popular reasons for making the switch is simply to enjoy our premium e-liquid blends, or to simply get off traditional cigarettes chalk-filled with carcinogens including tar.  Or maybe you've made the switch to e-cigarettes so you can more appropriately taper off your nicotine dependency in a controlled fashion.

Your inner circle in turn would ask: "Are there side effects associated with vaping?" or "How would your health be impacted by continued, long-term vaping?"

Aside from providing you with an exceptional vaping experience through our premium e-liquids and disposable devices, the entire team at BLVK wants to remind its users that we care about you beyond the lens of vaping.  Your well-being is important to us and we'd want to continue to convey full transparency when it comes to the very products we distribute worldwide.  We are going to discuss something a little less talked about, because we feel that you as consumers should know exactly what you are putting into your body.

YES, EVEN THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL INGREDIENTS OF E-LIQUIDS HAVE SIDE EFFECTS

To the extent of complete transparency, it is important to note that the two most fundamental elements of your favorite e-liquids also have inherent side effects to them.  These two fundamental ingredients being: Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG).

Based on surveys and data pulled from the various tests we've run for TPD compliance, Jordan's equivalent of the FDA (JFDA), and even within the US' FDA compliance, PG's adverse effects are minimal to say the least.

Some adverse side effects include fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth and eyes, throat irritation, and headaches.  Due to PG's classification as a chemical compound, these effects are rather normal and given the fact that most flavoring ingredients are PG-based, the likelihood you'd experience some degree of these listed side effects are almost-guaranteed.

Does this mean completely switch out your e-liquids to 100% VG-based blends?  No!  Absolutely not!  As we mentioned above, these side effects are normal per vaping and in order to experience said effects, you'd need to be chain-vaping quite a bit.

That brings us to our next and main ingredient: Vegetable Glycerin (VG).  The side effects of vaping VG reportedly include more of the same listing of side effects with the addition of possible dehydration.  Again, these effects can be common among vapers, especially those using VG/PG ratio blends - which by that understanding encompasses nearly all e-liquids industry-wide.

We always want to remind our readers - no matter what brand of e-liquid you choose, please STAY HYDRATED!  We get it, this is an often overlooked facet of life.  You're hustling, working, and vaping and sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves to that extent.  Doing so, however, can significantly minimize your chances of experiencing many of these side effects while vaping!

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH NICOTINE?

Nicotine is the main active ingredient found in both analog tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars, as well as e-liquids to be vaped.  Historically, the compound is derived from tobacco leaves and it wasn't until very recently that Tobacco-Free Nicotine derived from other plants or made synthetically began replacing tobacco-derived nicotine.

Functionally, when someone inhales the flavored aerosol of an e-liquid, the nicotine is rapidly absorbed into your bloodstream to then deliver feelings of adrenaline, increased heart rate, decrease tension, and increase cognitive thinking.  While these positive effects are present in the compound, there are a few adverse side effects to be aware of.

For starters, nicotine is a highly addictive substance.  It's as addictive as hardcore narcotic drugs and with continued, sustained use of nicotine, it only becomes harder to fully quit.  In addition to nicotine being addictive, some of the other adverse side effects include, but are not limited to:

  • Decreased appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Gastrointestinal distress
  • Increased production of saliva and phlegm
  • Nausea
  • Sweating

Due to the highly addictive nature of nicotine, research shows that the substance increases the level of dopamine in the brain.  Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for feelings of pleasure and well-being.  By consistently consuming nicotine and experiencing the feeling of pleasure, your brain starts to crave it and should you stop for whatever reason, withdrawal symptoms typically begin.  To be honest, experiencing nicotine withdrawal symptoms are never a fun feeling.

As the level of nicotine in the blood drops, people may begin to feel edgy and agitated.  Since the substance is a rather short-lived experience, the addictiveness of it kicks in and forces you to continue dosing themselves frequently to curb the adverse side effects, thus increasing dependency on the substance.

ARE THERE LIFE-THREATING SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH NICOTINE?

As far as experiencing life-threating side effects with nicotine, more research needs to be done on the subject.  Generally speaking, despite nicotine being a highly addictive substance, the fear-mongering pushed by anti-vaping activist groups typically try to pool the substance into cancer-causing carcinogens associated with smoking cigarettes.  Substances such as tar and carbon monoxide are known to increase the likelihood of cancer because it damages DNA.

Still, people who are addicted to nicotine typically consume nicotine through inhalation.  Inhaling anything only invites a myriad of respiratory problems later.  So please exercise your judgement and act accordingly.

DESPITE THE SIDE EFFECTS, WHY DO PEOPLE VAPE?

Despite experiencing mild side effects and the addiction behind nicotine, it can't be all bad, right?  Vaping can instill some positive changes in your body, particularly if you're in the process of making the switch away from analog tobacco products such as cigarettes and chewing tobacco.  Some of the brighter side effects include decreased coughing, better breath, better sense of taste and smell, and the most prominent one - BETTER BREATHING!  Combined with an increase in fitness stamina and overall health, there tons of positive benefits associated with vaping, too!

While we cannot say for certain that life-long vaping can lead to risk-free health implications, what we do know is that the chemical composition of e-liquids do not contain nearly as many harmful carcinogens as a cigarette would.  Perhaps then, vaping should continue to be viewed as the "lesser of evils" for current cigarette smokers.  Should you still be on the fence about making the switch, at least now you know what to expect.  And to that extent, stick with brand-name e-liquid and hardware manufacturers who go above and beyond guaranteeing the safety of their products to achieve an exceptional vaping experience.

On behalf of the entire team at BLVK, we remain dedicated to our family, friends, vendors, and customers in providing the highest-grade premium e-liquids and devices.  We encourage you to do your own research, listen to your own body, and to always decide what feels right for yourself.  By sharing this information, including some of the more overlooked type of content, we hope that our readers feel more educated about making the switch away from cigarettes in favor for a better alternative.

Thanks for reading and happy vaping!
